The Congress, which was hosted by the Babes-Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca, is an important international scientific event dedicated to geological research and academic dialogue. It brought together researchers and specialists in geology, in an extensive program of presentations and debates dedicated to topics such as tectonics, volcanism, geochronology and geological evolution of the Carpathian and Balkan region. GeoEcoMar was a partner in organizing this event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Scientific Director Mihaela Melinte Dobrinescu led, together with researcher Dan Palcu-Rolier, the Paratethys session, several researchers from GeoEcoMar giving presentations. Here are some titles: \u201eThe South Carpathians: relative timing of the Alpine polyphase nappe stacking, basement-cover relationships and magmatic markers as documented by geological mapping and research\u201d (Viorica Iancu, Antoneta Seghedi), \u201eSedimentological implications of mineralogy and origin of clay minerals assemblages in the Miocene salt deposits of Romania\u201d (Silviu R\u0103dan), \u201eTaxonomy of Lower Cenomanian corals of Gr\u0103di\u0219tea Muncelului \u2013 Cioclovina (Florin Pitea, Iuliana Laz\u0103r), \u201eSea-level oscillations and environmental changes on the Romanian Black Sea shelf since the Last glacial Maximum\u201d (Andrei Briceag, Mihaela Melinte-Dobrinescu, Gabriel Ion, Marius Stoica), \u201eThe Cimmerian Dobrogea Geopark Project, Romania \u2013 5 years of development towards a UNESCO Global Geopark\u201d (Antoneta Seghedi, Alexandru Andr\u0103\u0219anu, Andrei Briceag), \u201eModern sedimentary structures bearing shallow gas \u2013 organic matter in an anoxic basin \u2013 Black Sea\u201d (Gabriel Ion, Constantin Laz\u0103r, Adrian Popa, Mihaela Melinte-Dobrinescu), \u201eInsights global and regional changes within the Late Eocene to Early Oligocene interval: The record of the Eastern Carpathians\u201d (Mihaela Melinte-Dobrinescu, Teodora Babo\u015f, Gabriel Ion, Constantin Laz\u0103r, Dan Palcu-Rolier), \u201eDocumenting the demise of an ocean by multiproxy basin-state reconstructions in the northern Tethys\u2013Paratethys records\u201d (Dan V. Palcu Rolier, Mihaela Melinte-Dobrinescu, Marius Stoica, Milos Bartol, Sergiu Loghin, Sergey Popov).
