BRIDGE-BS: Advancing Black Sea Research and Innovation to Co-Develop Blue Growth within Resilient Ecosystems
BRIDGE-BS project aims to develop the tools and predictive capabilities needed to understand and predict the impact of both climatic and anthropogenic multiple stressors on the ecosystem services provided by the Black Sea. These ecosystem services and their responses to stressors will be mapped, monitored and modelled to identify a safe operating space in which a sustainable blue economy can thrive. Thus, BRIDGE-BS is structured around „three” interconnected nodes – “Dynamics of ecosystem services”, „Blue Growth Incubators” and „Responsible Citizens”. Node 1 will assess, predict and determine ecosystem resilience, using data time series, simulations, and machine learning tools to provide adaptive management tools. Node 2 will identify services that can support Sustainable Blue Growth in the Black Sea by strengthening resource management, developing and applying innovative technologies, and supporting start-ups and innovative business models to create added value and jobs. Node 3 will support the uptake of scientific results provided by BRIDGE-BS into sectoral policies and will train and strengthen the collaborations between scientists and stakeholders, as well as between policy makers, industry and civil society representatives. Most importantly, through Node 3, BRIDGE-BS will create a connected Black Sea community, strengthened by a new generation of researchers and innovators, to address the emerging challenges of the Black Sea.
The overall objective of BRIDGE-BS is to promote and strengthen the marine research and innovation in the Black Sea, to jointly develop Blue Growth pathways and mechanisms, that are under the action of multistressors, for the sustainable use of ecosystem services.
