Here, geological, geophysical, hydrological and biological processes are in permanent dynamics, the fragile balance being threatened by human activities and extreme events. And the changes suffered by this system can directly affect the economy, the environment and communities. Within this complex system operates GeoEcoMar – the National Institute for Research and Development on Marine Geology and Geo-Ecology, an institution that over time has built an essential scientific capacity for understanding and managing these processes.”
