Between 6 and 10 of July 10, 2026, within the Geopark Dobrogea Chimerica, in the locality Izvoarele in Tulcea county, a team of researchers from GeoEcoMar will participate in the organization of the workshop „Consulate of Mount Consul”. The activity will be part of the Core Program PN 23 30 04 01 – “Monitoring and evaluation of protected natural areas in UNESCO Geoparks and Aspirating Geoparks in Romania and developing a Citizen Science” platform.
The workshop will host 20 children aged 11-14 from two secondary schools in Tulcea County – 10 from Horia Middle School and 10 from Izvoarele Secondary School. The organizers want the children to learn about the natural, geological and cultural values of Mount Consul, to discover and discover themselves, to work in teams, to identify new skills, transforming the mountain into a space of encounter between school, nature and responsible tourism.
The event is organized to celebrate 100 years since the establishment of the Consul Mountain Reserve, the first nature reserve in Romania, which, for a few days, will become a space of cooperation between the National Institute of Research and Development for Marine Geology and Geoecomar – GeoEcoMar, GeoD Association for the promotion of geodiversity, Macin Mountains National Park Administration and the two secondary schools.
The representatives of the partner schools regard this project as a good platform for long-term cooperation, an opportunity for innovation in nature education and local identity.
The team will include Antoneta Seghedi (GeoD, GeoEcoMar), Alexandru Andrasanu (Geoparks Forum), Andrei Briceag (GeoEcoMar), Bianca Iorgoni (Embassador UNESCO Geopark – Hateg Country), representatives of Macin Mountains National Park and teachers from Izvoarele and Horia schools.
