Vessel of National Interest

The river and coastal research vessel “Istros” is an essential component for GeoEcoMar’s research activity. The vessel was fully upgraded in 2019.

Laboratories

“Istros” vessel hosts three on board laboratories:

• Chemistry Laboratory;
• Geophysics laboratory;
• Stern multifunctional laboratory.

The load capacity of staff on board is of maximum 17 persons: permanent crew – 7 persons, scientific crew – 10 persons.

Scientific endowments

The ship has the following equipment and equipment launching facilities: 

• Specialized marine equipment:
  • Multibeam bathymetric system SEABEAM 1050 Elak Nautik;
  • DGPS Sea Star 3200 LR 12;
  • Geometrics G-877 marine magnetometer;
  • Marine gravimeters (GMNKM and GDK);

• Water and sediment measurements and tests equipment:
  • Gravity corer;
  • Van Veen grab;

• Equipment launching facilities:
  • Stern A frame;
  • Starboard crane;
  • Whinch for hydrological measurements;
  • 2 manual bow winches;
