EMSO EUXINUS –
National Center for Monitoring and Alerting on Natural Marine Hazards
Since 2017, “EMSO – EUXINUS” has been included as a landmark research infrastructure on the roadmap developed by the Romanian Committee for Research Infrastructure (CRIC), following the evaluation of the proposals coming from the scientific community, evaluation being carried out with external evaluators support.
Through its subsystems, the Centre holds a top position in the Black Sea area regarding the water column monitoring and security against natural marine hazards. Since 2016, due to its uniqueness in the Black Sea (the Black Sea is the largest anoxic marine basin on the planet, with a weak connection to the World Ocean), The Centre has become a Node of the Pan-European Research Infrastructure – EMSO (European Multidisciplinary Seafloor and water column Observatory)-ERIC, thus being the only structure of this kind at national level that is part of a European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC). Starting with 2020, IOSIN “EUXINUS” has also become a member of EPOS ERIC (European Plate Observing System).
The three complex buoys (EuxRO 1, EuxRO 2 and EuxRO 3) located on the Romanian continental shelf, along with Mangalia, Constanta and Sulina coastal buoys and Geopontica GNSS network transmit in real time their specific data to the National Center for Marine Natural Hazards Monitoring and Alert EUXINUS. www.euxinus.eu
