Hydrology Team

 Staff:

The hydrology team conducts research across the entire area of the Danube – Danube Delta – Black Sea macrosystem using modern methods of acquiring and processing the hydrological and hydrodynamic data. For data interpretation, in order to understand the hydrodynamic processes in the fluvial and marine environment, data from auxiliary measurements are also used, which refer to the physical properties of water, the morphology of the riverbed and the suspended and bottom sediments.

The team’s activities are carried out in numerous national and international research projects, as well as in contracts with the private sector. These activities include complex, multidisciplinary studies of aquatic ecosystems, based upon the analysis of the natural and anthropogenic processes that can influence the natural environment, the development of studies and research on the quality status of the environmental factors (water, sediments and biota) and their evolution trend, the study of the hydro-morpho-sedimentary dynamics of the rectified meanders in the Danube Delta, under the influence of natural and anthropogenic factors, aspects related to hydrological connectivity.

The infrastructure used by the Hydrology team consists mainly of the following equipments: ADCP RiverRay 600 kHz; WH Monitor 600 kHz DR ADCP; Valeport TideMaster; CeeLine – CEEHydroSystems; ViSea data Acquisition Software v. 5; Hydromagic Survey Software; Valeport Swift Plus Turbidity; Greifer Van Veen (250 cm2).
