Interdisciplinary Research and Coastal Management Team

The Coastal Zone research group conducts complex studies of beach sediment dynamics and coastal geomorphology. The studies target the historical evolution, but also the seasonal variation of beaches and their response to extreme events.

The team’s objectives also concern integrated coastal zone management, marine spatial planning, and scientific support for coastal protection and engineering plans.

The activities include field studies (geomorphology and coastal sedimentology, measurements on geomorphological parameters of beaches and their variation), numerical modelling of water and sediment dynamics in the coastal area, as well as interpretation of field and laboratory results. Other significant activities concern coastal governance studies and multi-criteria analyses of the various coastal management plans.
