From 26 May to 8 June 2026, Dr. Selma Menabit and Dr. Andra Bucșe participated in the Seminar on Marine Sustainable Development, organized by the Fujian Institute of Oceanography under the China–Aid Training Programs, sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China.
The seminar offered valuable insights into China’s approaches to sustainable marine and coastal management, covering topics such as mangrove ecosystem restoration, marine spatial planning, integrated land–sea management, blue carbon initiatives, and the development of the Blue Economy. The agenda combined lectures, case studies, and field visits, providing participants with practical examples of marine resource governance and ecosystem conservation.
Many of the concepts and practices presented are highly relevant to the Black Sea region as well. Tools such as marine spatial planning, ecosystem restoration, and integrated coastal management can support sustainable development, environmental protection, and the growth of the Blue Economy in the Black Sea basin.
