The National Research and Development Institute for Marine Geology and Geoecology – GeoEcoMar organizes on April 7, 2026, at the Constanța Casino, the international awareness and networking workshop “Building a Transnational Network for Sturgeon Conservation in the Black Sea Basin”.
The event is organized within the Interreg NEXT BSB00172 project – SturNet (Network for the Preservation of Sturgeon and for the Sustainability of the Black Sea Basin Ecosystem) and aims to strengthen regional cooperation for the protection of sturgeons and their habitats in the Black Sea Basin, including the Danube region.
During the event, the current stage of SturNet project implementation, its objectives, activities, and preliminary results will be presented. The project web platform will be showcased, including the launch of the SturNet mobile application, as well as the Digital Mapping Tool, featuring thematic maps of sturgeon feeding and spawning areas and the methodology for integrating environmental and biological data into GIS products for habitat assessment and decision-making support.
A session dedicated to highlighting the objectives, activities and preliminary results of relevant initiatives will also be organized, within a special session associated with the Horizon Europe MARBEFES project (Marine Biodiversity and Ecosystem Functioning leading to Ecosystem Services, Grant Agreement 101060937)
