EMODnet: European Marine Observation and Data Network – Bathymetry

Acronim: EMODnet

The general objective of the project is to contribute to the EMODnet operational service by maintaining and enhancing availability and services for the parameters under their responsibility, through the EMODnet Central Portal.

  • Maintaining and improving a method of access to data held in repositories, common to all EMODnet thematic groups, ensuring the use of common standards and interoperability requirements;
  • Constructing products from available data sources that provide users with information about the distribution and value of parameters in time and space, as well as about the origin (ownership) of the initial data sets;
  • Developing and improving procedures for machine-to-machine communication to data and data products, following as necessary, the guidelines of the EMODnet Central Portal team, while ensuring a common approach along the different EMODnet thematic groups;
  • Fulfilling the EMODnet Central Portal requirements that ensure all data and data products can be found, viewed, and downloaded with ease from the Central Portal, following acceptable formats and providing the user with seamless experience;
  • Providing content for the reserved space for each thematic group within the EMODnet Central Portal, following any necessary requirements;
  • Ensuring coherence with the efforts of the Regional Sea Conventions and other relevant actors;
  • Contributing to the implementation of the EU legislation, including compliance to the INSPIRE Directive14, as well as broader initiatives for open data, particularly on issues of standardisation, interoperability, and availability of reporting data and, when relevant building on opportunities for interoperability with data distributed by non-EU organisations;
  • Monitoring quality and performance of use and dealing with user feedback, as distributed by the EMODnet Central Portal to the thematic representatives;
  • Contributing to the EMODnet Central Portal Task Force, by assuming the responsibility and workload for the optimal performance of the Central Portal in all issues related to their thematic expertise, under the guidance of the Central Portal team and the EMODnet Secretariat.
