EPOS-RO: Strengthening the Integration of Geophysical Infrastructures in Romania in the European Research Area
Acronym: EPOS-RO
The project aims to strengthen and expand Romania’s participation in the European research infrastructure EPOS – European Plate Observing System by developing a modern, integrated and interoperable national infrastructure for the monitoring, analysis and management of geophysical risks.
The implementation of the project will support the growth of research and innovation capacity in the field of Earth Sciences by integrating data, services and advanced research technologies into a collaborative European ecosystem based on open access, interoperability and FAIR principles.
Specific objectives:
- Modernization and expansion of the national seismic and geodynamic monitoring infrastructure, with a view to full integration into the EPOS infrastructure;
- Development and implementation of collaborative activities related to the thematic services outlined in the EPOS-ERIC strategic research and innovation agenda, with multidisciplinary applicability in the field of geophysics;
- Increasing the capacity to disseminate scientific and technical results by establishing efficient mechanisms for communication and knowledge transfer, and by enhancing the visibility of research at national and European levels.
Expected results:
- Improvement of seismic monitoring systems through the acquisition of geophysical equipment useful for research and the development of project activities;
- Multidisciplinary research on the development of thematic services suitable for integration into the European EPOS infrastructure;
- Enhancing research capacity performance by involving research staff and recruiting new researchers for the project’s activities;
- Development and implementation of an integrated multidisciplinary portal, linked to the EPOS platform.
