Projects: DANUBIUS-RI

DANUBIUS-RI is a pan-European distributed research infrastructure under development, building on existing expertise to support interdisciplinary research on River-Sea Systems spanning the environmental, social and economic sciences. It will provide access to a range of River-Sea Systems, facilities and expertise – a ‘one-stop shop’ for knowledge exchange, access to harmonised data, and a platform for interdisciplinary research, education and training.

The DANUBIUS-RI Preparatory Phase (DANUBIUS-PP) has developed the structures and processes to ensure that DANUBIUS-RI can deliver an integrated understanding of the functioning of RS systems and address the key societal challenges associated with, and opportunities of, RS systems.

DANUBIUS-PP was a three-year preparatory project designed to advance DANUBIUS-RI, the International Centre for Advanced Studies on River-Sea Systems, towards full legal, financial, and technical readiness for implementation and long-term development. DANUBIUS-PP refined key elements such as the Science and Innovation Agenda, legal frameworks, governance structures, data management policies, and financial models. It developed the necessary agreements and organisational structures and laid the groundwork for a sustainable, well-governed research infrastructure capable of delivering services and enhancing scientific research on River-Sea Systems.
