The team of interdisciplinary research of the river environment carries out complex studies to assess the impact of global changes and anthropogenic interventions on the quality of the Danube environment and the main tributaries. These studies follow the current developments in the physical-chemical parameters of water and sediments and compare the values recorded in the field with the historical values existing in the GeoEcoMar INCD database.
By applying complex investigation methodologies, the team aimes at developing an integrated management for pilot areas in the Romanian Danube sector (areas at risk of flooding, areas exposed to high erosion, areas with potential for implementing “green solutions”, areas with navigation problems, etc.),
The main activities consist of field studies and specific laboratory analysis, aimed at identifying the physical-chemical parameters of the water and sediments on the bottom of the Danube riverbed and the main tributaries, as well as processing and interpretation of the field and laboratory results.
