SETTING: Integrated thematic services in the field of Earth Observation – a National Platform for Innovation
The project aimed to enforce the research and innovation in the field of Earth Sciences and to increase participation in the European Research by:
– ensuring the visibility and access to interoperable multi-disciplinary data, available at national and international level;
– coordinating and operating a distributed infrastructure capable of providing services, facilitating new research and generating new products based on them;
– developing and implementing modern IT tools to facilitate the standardization, integration and access to large volumes of data.
The specific objectives of the project were:
- The creation of a scalable research platform at the national level, which represented a step forward in increasing the capacity of the scientific community to respond both to the fundamental scientific and the socio-economic problems in the field of geo-hazards and geo-resources.
- Supporting and sustaining the involvement of the Romanian organizations in EU programmes.
- Creating new opportunities of collaboration with prestigious stakeholders through increased related scientific capacities and expertise.
- To ease the access to research data and products overcaming existing technological barriers to their use, thus increasing the competitiveness in industry and economy.
The project produced the following expected results:
– An efficient national research platform containing thematic services in the field of Earth Sciences, dedicated to various user communities (scientific, academic, private sector, society).
– An inventory of infrastructures (organisations) with data, products and services relevant for the Earth Sciences field. The information obtained was accessible through modern on-line tools, customized according to users’ needs.
– A metadata base that minutely describes the data, products and services available through the platform, as well as their regimen, access mode and associated usage licenses.
– Supports strengthening the Earth Sciences National community.
