PN19200102-Multidisciplinary research aimed at improving knowledge of the interaction between climate change and anthropogenic pressures and its effects on the Black Sea ecosystem

Acronim: GEOBIOECOMAR

The project aimed to bring added value through multidisciplinary, complex research regarding the knowledge of the patterns of interaction between natural and anthropogenic pressures, as well as their effects on the Black Sea ecosystem.

  • Multidisciplinary geo-ecological monitoring of parameters (physical, chemical and biological) that are likely to be affected by climate change or anthropogenic influences, thus allowing, on the basis of comparison with baseline levels established by previous studies, to identify the effects of climate change and/or the consequences of anthropogenic influences;
  • Improving knowledge of the cumulative effects of the anthropogenic pressures;
  • Identifying the effects of recent climate change on the ecosystems and understanding their consequences;
  • Tracking the evolutionary trends over time of the geo-ecological consequences of the global climate change and the geo-tectonic events;
  • Improving knowledge of changes in the structure and functioning of the marine ecosystem as a result of the interaction of natural and anthropogenic pressures;
  • Developing new methodologies to allow the assessment of the effects of the combined action of natural and anthropogenic pressures;
  • Identifying ways to adapt to the effects of climate change and reduce ecosystem vulnerability;
  • Understanding the benefits of marine ecosystems, an essential requirement in their sustainable exploitation;
  • Supporting the national/European environmental policies.
