PN19200403-Identification and investigation of the potential risk areas for greenhouse gas emissions in the Black Sea and Danube river basin through complex geochemical, geological and geophysical methods
Acronim: GEOBIOECOMAR
The project aimed at identifying the areas with high methane emissions in the atmosphere from the surface water mass, in relation to the amount released from sediments, dispersed in the water column and emitted to the atmosphere in different areas of the Black Sea. The project also aimed to identify risk factors arising from sudden and high-intensity emissions, having an important role in assessing the climate response to sudden emissions from shallow areas and gas-hydrate reservoirs.
- Combined interdisciplinary approach and integration of all methods of marine geological, geochemical and geophysical data acquisition, in order to create, following the data acquisition, process and interpretation, an necessary optimal workflow for the application of this methodology in the field of marine natural hazards, both domestically and internationally. It targets the specific application in the oil and gas industry, alternative energies and underwater mining, where it is necessary that these areas be carefully investigated, due to the risks that may arise duringt the exploration – exploitation activities;
- Detailed investigations to determine the greenhouse gas concentrations in the water column and their emissions at both the sediment – water interface and the water atmosphere interface;
- The elaboration of detailed maps, combined (with information on each acquisition method) with the highlighting of areas with possible risk, due to the presence of important gas accumulations and of areas with tectonic hazard in the submarine substrate;
- Creating regional geological profiles on the Romanian continental shelf of the Black Sea based on the interpretation and conversion of acquired seismic profiles and existing geological information to highlight and characterize the areas with marine natural hazards from a geological point of view;
