PN16450303 – Complex geological and geophysical study of the sedimentary basins in Romania in order to outline the most appropriate structures for energy and CO2 storage.

Acronim: DELMAR

The project aimed to outline a number of geological energy and CO2 storage solutions to stimulate the renewable energy production in Romania, coupled with the reduction of the energy exports and greenhouse gas emissions.

Study on the potential for energy storage in sedimentary basins in Romania. Identification of the potential energy storage sites (compressed air and hydrogen) and estimation of their storage capacities, selection of two sites;

  • Geological and geophysical characterization study of two potential energy storage sites. Creation of geophysical models based on new field data;

  • Study on the energy storage capacity and structural integrity of the geophysically investigated sites;

  • Study on the possibilities of geological storage of CO2 in the Histria Depression (Black Sea) and the identification of the potential storage structures;

  • Preliminary characterization of a potential CO2 geological storage site in the Histria Depression (Black Sea);

  • Creation of a web-based database and interactive map that includes the collected geological and geophysical information necessary to assess both the potential for the energy storage in sedimentary basins in Romania and the geological storage of CO2 in the Histria Depression (Black Sea).
